KARACHI- The city administration has decided to activate the Divisional Heritage Preservation Committee headed by the Commissioner of Karachi so that effective coordinated measures can be taken for the preservation of historic buildings in the city.
This was decided at a meeting of Southern District administration officials, a press release said on Friday. Commissioner Iqbal Memon ordered officials to carry out coordinated efforts to improve the city and address day-to-day civic issues with the support of civic agencies. He said officials from the seven district administrations should work to resolve public grievances in close cooperation and coordination with civic agencies, including the water and sewerage board, KMC, DMCs and cantonment board. , etc.
South Deputy Commissioner Irshad Sodhar briefed the commissioner on the efforts of the district administration for the development and beatification of the district as well as their efforts in addressing the issues faced by the citizens. He also briefed on the Karachi Neighborhood Project being implemented in the Southern District initiated by the Government of Sindh with the support of the World Bank. Commissioner then visited the different areas of the Southern District. He also visited NJV School and Jehangir Park.
Karachi Commissioner Iqbal Memon said the Southern District was an important district as it had a historical background, having a number of historic places and buildings, where a diverse community resided. He said the district is also of socio-economic importance as a large number of headquarters of financial and non-governmental organizations are located there. The commissioner said the Sindh government is doing all it can to make the city a better place to live.
