The Historic Preservation Expo is Saturday • St Pete Catalyst

Preserve the ‘Burg, St. Pete’s nonprofit advocate for historic preservation, will advance its cause with a public exhibit and forum Saturday at the St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club.

The Preserve the ‘Burg Expo, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., will feature historic preservation experts and architects, hands-on demonstrations of historic windows, tours of the Mirror Lake neighborhood and more.

“I would really like to make sure that Preserve the ‘Burg is a community resource,” said general manager Manny Leto. “We should be an organization that people can go to for information about historic preservation – and that’s the whole community. Neighborhood groups, landowners, landlords, the development community…we want to be that neighborhood resource.

The free exhibit, he added, was created “to bring people together and talk about these issues. We have city staff doing presentations, historians, preservation architects, artisans. And the conversation that’s going to happen at the event, even between official presentations, that’s what we’re trying to do.

Expo Highlights:

10 a.m. Search for your historic home

11 a.m. Guide to Creating Historic Districts

12:00 p.m. Using design guidelines

1:00 p.m. Navigate the COA process

2 p.m. Maintenance of your historic house

Tours of Mirror Lake and the Shuffleboard Club will be offered throughout the day beginning at 10 a.m. And PTSA will show off the new SunRunner bus and teach people how to load their bikes onto the new racks.
